Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic

Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, America’s premier youth fiddling show band from Saline, Michigan, astounds audiences every time the group takes the stage. The musicians, all high school students, present an energetic and polished show that features a diverse range of music from American folk, fiddle, bluegrass, jazz, western swing, and Celtic traditions.  Spirited vocals and Appalachian step dancing combine with the instrumentals to create an unforgettable live performance.
Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic began in 1994 with a simple idea: introduce an alternative style of music education to public school students to maintain and expand their interest in music performance.  Since then, the group has definitely set the standard for extracurricular music programs in the United States. It has grown into a model of instruction and motivation that is being emulated across the nation.

The Fiddlers have shared the stage with many top artists including Bonnie Rideout, Jeff Daniels, Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, Jeremy Kittel and Reba McEntire. Their show will delight audiences of all ages.

Animal shelter scam: from the Los Angeles County District Attorney

Advisory: Animal shelter scam: from the Los Angeles County District Attorney

Photo from Deputy Dan P.
The image of a sad puppy in a cage at a shelter will inspire many animal lovers to donate money to rescue organizations but scammers may be preying on their compassion.

In the animal shelter scam, crooks will post pictures of the animals with false information about “high kill” shelters and imminent death unless they immediately receive money to rescue the pets.
Consumers may be contacted on social media, email, phone or U.S. mail seeking donations to rescue an animal. In one common scam, fraudsters post old pictures of animals or that are not in our region or local shelters and indicate they are legitimate charities when they are not.
The money raised by scammers doesn’t go to the care of the animal, sheltering agencies or to the adopting party or organization.

TIPS:
Verify that the organization or individual soliciting funds is a legitimate 501(C)3 charitable group
Double check that the animal exists, where it is housed and the true extent of its needs
Ask the sheltering agency what help already has been provided to the animal and whether it really is at risk of being put to sleep.

Deputy District Attorney Jessie McGrath from the Consumer Protection Division explains the scam in this video: http://vimeo.com/219930077

Report fraud to the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs at (800) 593-8222 or http://dcba.lacounty.gov.

Community: The search for missing five-year-old boy moves to Santa Barbara today

LA Co. Sheriff's Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, Special Enforcement Bureau and several LA County search and rescue teams assisted with today's search of Lake Cuchuma area, Santa Barbara County search for missing 5 year old.

From KTLA news:
Investigators returned to Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara County early Saturday using unmanned aircraft to resume the search for a 5-year-old South Pasadena boy who has been missing since April.

LASD officials used unmanned aircraft on June 10, 2017 at Lake Cachuma to search for a missing 5-year-old boy.
The search began at 7 a.m. with investigators looking for evidence connected to the disappearance of Aramazd Andressian Jr., who was reported missing by his mother on April 22 after his father failed to return him to a planned custody exchange.

The boy’s father, 35-year-old Aramazd Andressian Sr., told investigators he took his son to the Lake Cachuma Recreation Area the day before he disappeared. A dive team, police dogs, and a helicopter searched Lake Cachuma a few days after the boy’s disappearance, but found no evidence indicating Andressian Jr. was there.

It was unclear what prompted investigators to head back to Lake Cachuma to ramp up the search on Saturday, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said there is evidence leading investigators to believe  Andressian Sr. also traveled around the Lake Cachuma area near Solvang and Nojoqui Falls with his son.

The boy was last seen on video footage leaving Disneyland with his father about 1 a.m. on April 21. A witness told police she saw the father and son while she camping the next day at Lake Cachuma.

Andressian Sr. was found unconscious in Arroyo Park in South Pasadena the day his son was reported missing. The father told detectives he had taken his son to the park that morning as he waited for the nearby golf course to open, but did not remember any other details about what happened to his son.

The boy was not with him when authorities arrived at the park and has not been seen or heard from since.

Andressian Sr. was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and child abduction on April 22 after giving contradictory statements to detectives, but he was released from custody three days later after the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department chose not to pursue charges against him.

In May investigators served a search warrant at the home of Andressian Sr.’s mother in Montebello and seized several items of evidence.

Andressian Jr.’s mother, Ana Estevez, said she last saw her son on April 15 during a Skype video call when he was with his father and has since pleaded for her son’s return.

Andressian Jr.’s parents are in the middle of a divorce and have shared custody of their son.

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information related to the case, and a GoFundMe page has been established.
