There is a new Captain in town!

Announced late yesterday afternoon, the new Commander of the Altadena Sheriff's Station (ALD 7) is Lt. John Benedict who will promote to Captain on April 1st, 2012 replacing Captain Steven M. McLean who retires on March 31st.

According to Lt. Roosevelt Johnson of the Altadena Sheriff's Station; Lieutenant John Benedict was selected as the new Captain of Altadena Station.  John is currently working as the Aide to Chief Neal Tyler and will assume command of the station on April 1, 2012.

Community: Crime Blotter Wednesday, January 25th Between 10:30 AM and 11:15 AM – A residential burglary occurred in the 100-blk of E. Woodbury Rd. Suspect(s) entered the residence by removing the bedroom window screen. Loss: black Nintendo Wii, gold/turquoise wrist watch, costume jewelry. Between 1:00 PM and 8:00 AM, Thursday – A grand theft of vehicle parts occurred in the 900-blk of W. La Canada Verdugo Rd. Loss: 2000 Chevrolet 2500 tailgate. Thursday, January 26th 1:15 PM – A residential burglary occurred in the 800-blk of New York Dr. The victim stated he heard the doorbell and a few minutes later heard some noises coming from the kitchen area. The victim walked into the kitchen and observed a female, African-American, 14 to 16 yrs, attempting to open the kitchen window. The female saw the victim and fled the location leaving behind a black glove. Deputies responded to area, contacted witnesses and arrested a male-juvenile. The female juvenile and another male juvenile, African-American are still outstanding. No loss. Friday, January 27th Between 6:00 PM and 3:00 AM, Saturday – A petty theft of vehicle auto parts occurred in the 2100-blk of N. Santa Anita Av. Loss: brown 2006 Chevrolet Silverado tailgate. SAVE THE DATES! 16th Annual Summer Concert Series

The 16th Annual Summer Concert Series is just around the corner. Well, just a little under 7 months from now.

We start the preparation for the SCS in January, and we are in ‘fundraising’ mode right now. Altadena is the only unincorporated Community in the San Gabriel Valley which produces a SCS without the benefit of being a City and having the resources that a City would have to mount a SCS. Nearly all our funding comes from the private sector, in the past we have had Warner Bros. Entertainment, the Rotary Club of Altadena, Podley Realtors, Toyota of Pasadena and Altadenablog to name a few. In addition we have received great support from Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation for providing the beautiful and newly refurbished Amphitheater at Farnsworth Park.

Every year it has been a challenge to raise the money for the artists who preform and for our professional sound and light engineer. This year is no different. We need your help!

The dates for this year SCS are: July 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. August 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th. Our Grand Finale will be on September 8th. All concerts are Saturday night in the Amphitheater at Farnsworth Park. Showtime is 7:00 PM and the concerts last until about 9:00 PM. Or so.

Drive Sober, Avoid 100 Policing Agencies Winter AVOID the 100 LA County Law Enforcement Agencies: Anti-DUI Campaign (Update #10) DUI Arrests Still on the Rise Entering the Holiday Weekend The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 100 DUI deployments in Los Angeles County. From 12:01 AM Friday December 16, 2011 through Midnight Thursday December 29, 2011 officers representing 100 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 1,849 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2010, 1,720 DUI arrests occurred during the same fourteen-day time period. For New Year’s Eve and final weekend of the campaign, checkpoints will be conducted at undisclosed locations throughout the County. DUI Patrols will be searching all other areas of the county with the hopes of removing drunk drivers from the road before they kill or injure innocent family members and. The CHP will be deploying all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the New Year’s holiday weekend beginning tonight at 6:00 PM until Midnight Monday.
