Monday, June 29th 7:40 AM – A residential burglary occurred in the 1500 block of New York Drive.  Suspect(s) entered the residence by removing the window screen leading into the bedroom located on the second floor.  Property Stolen: 1 ct. diamond ring, gold ring with baguettes. 9:20 AM – A residential burglary occurred in the 3000 block of Mount Curve Avenue.  Suspect(s) entered the residence via unknown means.  Property Stolen: currency.  7:09 PM – Joshua Smith, 22 years old, of Victorville and Mukri Ordonez, 18 years old of Altadena, were arrested in the 2500 block of Fair Oaks Avenue for drunk in public. 7:50 PM – Nicholas Metcalfe, 47 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the 300 block of Ventura Street for domestic battery. 10:30 PM – A vehicle vandalism occurred in the 3100 block of Casitas Avenue.  Suspect(s) shattered the windows to a vehicle by using a pellet gun. Tuesday, June 30th No significant incidents to report. Wednesday, July 1st 4:00 PM – A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1500 block of N. Roosevelt Drive.  Vehicle Stolen:  silver 2001 Toyota Rav4. 6:40 PM – A burglary occurred in the 2600 block of Bowring Drive.  Suspect(s) cut the pad lock which secured the driveway gate and shattered the garage window.  No entry was made into the residence.  Property Stolen:  none. 8:55 PM – A vandalism (graffiti) occurred in the area of Loma Alta Drive and Sunset Ridge Drive.  Nile Ballou, 19 years old of Los Angeles and Ashanta Dean, 18 years old of Pasadena were arrested.  Three juveniles (names withheld) were also linked to the incidents. Thursday, July 2nd 12:27 AM – Gregory Drake, 51 years old of Long Beach, was arrested in the area of Woodbury Drive and Marengo Avenue for drunk in the public. 5:49 AM – A vehicle was reported stolen from the 3000 block of Lake Avenue.  Vehicle Stolen:  black 1962 Chevrolet Impala 2-door. 10:45 AM – A petty theft of a vehicle part occurred in the area of Morada Place and Lake Avenue.  Suspect(s) cut the catalytic converter off of a 2006 Honda Element. 3:55 PM – A vehicle was reported stolen from the 2500 block of Ganesha Avenue.  Suspect(s) described as male Blacks and Hispanics in their 20’s.  Suspect vehicle, possibly a newer model (2012-2014) black Jeep Cherokee, no plates.  Additional suspect vehicle described as a gray BMW 7-series with shiny rims; occupied with a male, Hispanic, 25-30 years, shaved head.  Vehicle outstanding: blue 1964 Chevrolet Impala 2-dr. 10:24 PM – Jeffrey Ware, 61 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Figueroa Drive for drunk in public. Friday, July 3rd 6:00 AM – A petty theft occurred in the 2200 block of Fair Oaks Av.  Property Stolen:  black backpack containing misc. items. 6:15 AM – A vehicle vandalism occurred in the 400 block of W. Palm Street.  Suspect(s) punctured the front driver’s side tire. 4:19 PM - A vehicle vandalism occurred in the 400 block of W. Palm Street.  Suspect(s) punctured the rear passenger tire. 7:07 PM – Jose Ibarra, 18 years old of Pasadena, was arrested for taking a vehicle without owner’s consent.  Deputies observed the vehicle being driven in the 600 block of W. Washington Boulevard and learned the vehicle was reported stolen from San Marino.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle was released to the owner. Saturday, July 4th 4:15 PM – Joanna Joubran, 52 years old of Pasadena, was arrested in the 2300 block of Galbreth Road for spousal assault. 8:41 PM – Thomas Sawyer III, 30 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the 2600 block of Olive Avenue for illegal possession of fireworks. 8:50 PM – Miguel Sanchez, 18 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the 200 block of Ventura Street for illegal possession of fireworks. 8:52 PM – Randy Ramirez, 23 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the 100 block of W. Figueroa Street for illegal possession of fireworks. 9:34 PM – Monty Burks, 19 years old of Long Beach, was arrested in the area of Archwood Street and Windsor Avenue    for possession of illegal fireworks. 10:42 PM – Brian Ross, 43 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the 50 block of W. Mariposa Street for illegal possession of fireworks. 10:57 PM – Michael Druez, 34 years old of Altadena, was arrested in the 100 block of W. Terrace Street for illegal possession of fireworks. Catalytic Converter Theft Awareness

Advisory: Catalytic Converter Theft Awareness   When you think of something being stolen from your parked vehicle, you may think of your stereo, a portable GPS unit, or even coins in the ashtray.  There is one part you rarely, if ever, think of; your catalytic converter.  This type of theft is actually a nationwide problem.  A very few thefts have been reported to the Altadena Sheriff’s Station in recent months and everyone needs to be aware of the issue. The catalytic converter is part of your vehicle’s exhaust system.  It is an emissions-control device that contains small amounts of precious metal (platinum, palladium, or rhodium) that act as catalysts.  All vehicles sold in the United States since 1975 have at least one catalytic converter. Although thieves aren’t typically extracting the precious metals themselves, your catalytic converter is still a very valuable part.  A thief can steal a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle in less than a minute and then sell it to a scrap yard for $50.00 to $250.00, depending on the part. Trucks and SUVs are the most commonly targeted vehicles due to their higher ground clearance and exposed exhaust systems.  The thief can crawl under these vehicles and remove the catalytic converter without the use of a jack.  Also, larger trucks and SUVs often have more than one catalytic converter to comply with emissions standards. Once under the vehicle, the thief unbolts the catalytic converter or simply cuts the exhaust pipe on each side of the converter using a cordless saw.  The converter can then easily be removed. If your catalytic converter is stolen, you will know it as soon as you start your vehicle.  It will sound like loud motorcycle mufflers.  Although very loud, it is safe to drive your vehicle directly to repair shop without the catalytic converter.  It does not need to be towed unless there is other damage to the vehicle. Your repair and replacement cost could be well over $2000.00. To prevent your catalytic converter from being stolen, here are a few ideas: *Always park in a well-lit, high traffic area *Many muffler shops can secure your converter to the vehicle’s frame by welding in some pieces of hardened steel *There are several catalytic converter theft deterrent systems available through your local auto parts store or online *Engrave your vehicle’s license number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on your catalytic converter to make it traceable (factory parts are marked only with the general part number) Always watch for suspicious people near parked vehicles.  Any parked vehicle could be a potential target, but be especially mindful in areas where vehicles are left unattended for longer periods of time.  Bus stations, train stations, and “Park and Ride” lots are commonly targeted areas. Advisory: Join us at Farnsworth Park Saturday July 11th 7:00pm for an Evening of the Blues, the kick of of the Summer Concert Series.   The Sheriff's Support Group of Altadena presents Concerts in the Park starting Saturday, July 11th at Farnsworth Park in the amphitheater.  The first concert will have "The Downbeat Express", under the direction of Paul Emmett featuring Jennifer Gates.  The music that will be played is an evening of blues and Sinatra.  Farnsworth Park is located at 568 E.
