ALD 7
On Sunday, May 19, 2013, Altadena Station runners
will carry the Memorial Run Torch from Crescenta Valley Station to Altadena
Station, a distance of approximately 7.8 miles. This run is NOT
timed, the pace is a 10 minute mile pace and the majority of the
distance is level except for the uphill grade from Woodbury Rd. to Altadena Dr.
As in past years, we will divide our stations portion of the Memorial Run into 3
legs. You may run all of the legs.
The
first leg is from CVS to Los Angeles County Fire Station 82 (about 3 miles).
The second leg is from Station 82, to the Altadena CHP office (about 1.7
miles). The last leg is from the CHP office to Altadena Station (about 2.7
miles). We will regroup at Fair Oaks and Altadena Drive to light the real torch,
and run in as a group to the station (approx.1 mile). Shuttle vans will be
available to transport runners from Altadena Station to any leg. Start time at
CVS is 1345 hrs. We should be at ALD around 1450 hrs. After we hand off the torch
in the station parking lot, there will be a brief memorial ceremony followed by
FREE
catered food consisting of tacos (Chicken, Carnitas, Al Pastor, and
Asada) with sides of rice and beans including a full salsa bar and
refreshments. We anticipate serving the food at approximately 1500 hours. The
food will be provided by Funtana Jumps, check out their site (http://funtanajumps.com/). Memorial
t-shirts will also be available for sale at $10 each (quantities may be
limited) if you missed the initial purchase order (see attached t-shirt pic).
Remember, this is a family event so feel free
to bring along family members to enjoy the afternoon. Bicycles, roller skates,
skate boards, motorcycles, wheelchairs, ALL are welcome. Your
participation will be greatly appreciated. We are hoping to have enough department/community
participation to line the entire route, but are especially interested in lining
Altadena Drive between Fair Oaks and the station with spectators to cheer us on
as we deliver the torch to Altadena Station. Your participation will be greatly
appreciated, and our station and community participation in this event is only
as successful as we make it! The caterer is gearing up to serve 50 people. I
want to call him back to tell him he will be serving 75-100 people! A runner
sign-up sheet and t-shirt purchase sheet is posted outside of the station
dispatch area. Contact Deputy Gabriel (626) 296-2107 (gjgabrie@lasd.org), Deputy Spina (626)
296-2105 (MJSpina@lasd.org), or me @ (626)
296-2106 (Mbossie@lasd.org), to
participate. Come out and honor our fallen heroes!
