Community: Free concert this Saturday, July 30 at 7pm, Heartbeat City, a tribute band to The Cars will be at Farnsworth Park.

Free concert this Saturday July 30th, Farnsworth Park amphitheater located at 568 E. Mt. Curve Ave., at 7:00pm Heartbeat City will be performing a tribute to The Cars.

The Cars arrived on the music scene in the late 70's (around '78/'79) and quickly changed the style of the hit music of that period. They led the way into the new sound of the 80's music era. They continued to be a prominent force into the late 80's and were a fixture on the radio as well as MTV. Along the way they sold millions of albums and had 30 hit singles to their credit. There weren't many bands more successful at the time. Their music was fresh, upbeat, and fun... and it was Rock & Roll! You'd have a hard time finding anyone who doesn't like the Cars!... Their music still gets regular radio airplay and their You Tube videos continue to get millions of hits. There is still a huge audience for the music of the Cars.

Named for one of the Cars biggest selling albums, Heartbeat City faithfully re-creates the look and sound of the Cars. They dress in the period-correct 80's style of the Cars and, being accomplished musicians, their sound is amazingly close to the real thing! Seeing Heartbeat City is as close as you can come to seeing an 80's Cars concert. As a San Diego promoter once said... "This isn't just a Tribute to the Cars...this is THE Tribute to the Cars"

The members of Heartbeat City have come together from a few different well-known national level Tribute acts, as well as some pretty famous 80's recording acts... On the Tribute scene, various members have worked with Hotel California - a Salute to the Eagles, Wild Child - a Tribute to the Doors, Belladonna - a Tribute to Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Get Back with the cast of Beatlemania (featuring members from the Broadway cast and movie), and many more. Heartbeat City's Drummer has also worked with members of the real Cars.

On the recording front, members have come from 80's recording acts like Mastedon (former Kansas members), Berlin, Survivor, and have recorded on the 80's classic movie soundtrack St. Elmo's Fire along with many other movie soundtracks and film & television placements... plus they have worked with dozens of other recording acts too numerous to list. This band has a solid background in the music business!

Because of the past history of Heartbeat City's members, you can always expect to see a high quality, professional show. This band is quickly becoming a favorite in venues all across the Country. Why not see for yourself?... LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!

The Walking Phoenixes at Farnsworth Park on July 9th, 7:00 PM

Tuesday July 5, 2016, 4:49 PM
LASD - Altadena Station, Los Angeles County Sheriff
Jim McDonnell, Sheriff

Community: The Walking Phoenixes featured at Farnsworth Park this Saturday July 9th, at 7:00pm. FREE admission.

THE WALKING PHOENIXES
The Johnny Cash tribute band will be performing at Farnsworth Park in the amphitheater located 568 E mount Curve ave. at 7:00 pm this Saturday July 9th. FREE admission to this concert.
When the Walking Phoenixes take the stage in their signature “all black” three piece suits, you can’t help but wonder if these young men have what it takes to be a tribute to the “Man In Black.” It is more than just a band or a likeness of Johnny Cash. It’s an experience.
The Walking Phoenixes give these classic songs a re-birth, a modern and sometimes hot-rodded sound created out of their liking and love for Johnny Cash. They don’t sound like any particular band. They do have all kinds of influences, but that just brings a very colorful and layered sound to what they do with the Johnny Cash songs. Some songs are sped up, and some are even slowed down. It depends on the content, style, and story of the song. There are different band members, with different perspectives. Each has a very different palette of paint to work from. You add all that together, and you get their sound with the Johnny Cash overtone essence and presence.
They strive to be like “a flower of light in a field of darkness.” These are the lyrics in the song “Greystone Chapel,” written by Glen Sherley (an inmate at Folsom Prison). Johnny Cash had performed this song at Folsom Prison while Sherley was still there. Whether they are headlining a summer concert series for over 10,000 people, or performing for one special person, they strive to inspire and uplift any environment, touch people’s hearts and make them smile. The Walking Phoenixes have played at benefit concerts for all different types of awareness. From mesothelioma motorcycle runs, job awareness for the U.S. veterans, life care centers for the aging, to even a prison. They are in fact a flower of light in a field of darkness.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Fireworks Safety Tips

Sunday July 3, 2016, 7:00 AM
LASD - Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept Information Bureau (SIB)

Advisory: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Fireworks Safety Tips #LASD

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Fireworks Safety Tip
The American traditions of parades, cookouts, and fireworks help up celebrate the summer season, especially our Nation’s birthday on the Fourth of July. However, fireworks can turn a joyful celebration into a painful memory when children or adults are injured. Although legal consumer fireworks can be relatively safe, all fireworks are hazardous and can cause injury.
Fireworks are classified as hazardous substances under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. Illegal explosive type devices (M-80's, quarter sticks) and professional display fireworks, should never be handled by consumers due to serious injuries and death that can occur.
Fireworks can also lead to fires that may damage land and property. This puts our Firefighters and the public’s lives at risk.
The county unincorporated areas and many cities prohibit all forms of fireworks including “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Some cities, however, do permit “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Check the ordinances of your city before buying or using fireworks.
Illegal fireworks will be confiscated and violators may be cited for possession of fireworks under California Health and Safety, city and/or county codes. For more information on firework safety, a list of firework related provisions, definitions, laws, and fines, go to http://www.fire.lacounty.gov/safety-messages/fireworks-safety/

Note: The sale and use of Safe and Sane fireworks in your community may be prohibited by local ordinance (check with your local fire department).
If they are allowed, Safe and Sane fireworks can only be purchased from a State Fire Marshal licensed retail stand from noon on June 28th to noon on July 6th.
NOTE TO PARENTS: If you have any fireworks prior to June 28th, the items are probably illegal and dangerous and should be turned over to your fire department or local police agency!
It is against the law to use, possess, store or sell “illegal fireworks”. State law provides for a fine of at least $500 and/or a year in jail upon conviction for violating fireworks laws. Some violations are a felony! Fireworks cause many burns, injuries and fires. Violators can be held responsible for damages, as well as having to pay a fine and/or go to jail.
Parents are liable for any damage or injuries caused by their children using fireworks. Look for the “Safe and Sane” seal on all fireworks.
Leave fireworks to the professionals. Visit safejuly4th.org or call 888-654-FIRE (3473) to obtain the latest information on fireworks shows in your community.
