Friday, August 24th 12:00 PM – A residential burglary occurred in the 100-blk of W. Mendocino St. The victim and his friend were home at the time and observed the suspect – male, black, 511-600, 180-200, wearing a black shirt and blue pants, standing in the dining room. The victim said ‘hello’ to the suspect and the suspect stated he was looking for the victim’s brother. The suspect then left the location. Suspect male, black, 15-20 yrs, 505, 135, black hair, brown eyes, white t-shirt, black shorts, white Air Jordan shoes, riding a bicycle, approached the victim and asked him ‘where he was from?.’ The suspect got off his bicycle and retrieved a red pocket knife. The victim fearing for his safety retrieved his cell phone and money and gave it to the suspect. The suspect grabbed the items and fled eastbound on Ventura St. Loss: black LG Verizon cell phone, $2.00. 10:45 AM – A petty theft of a bicycle occurred at Super King, 2260 N. Lincoln Av. Mariposa St. Loss: black w/black rims OP beach cruiser. ****Safe Drug Drop-Off Boxes**** The public may drop-off unused prescription drugs 24 - hours a day, seven days a week at Altadena Sheriff’s station. There are three Safe-Drug Drop-Off boxes located in front of the station. The boxes are each labeled for prescription drugs, illegal drugs, and syringes (sharps). Advisory: Red Flag Warning in Effect for Los Angeles County Mountains NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard Weather Briefing for Red Flag Warning August 21-22, 2012 ***Red Flag Warning in Effect for Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles County Mountains, Valleys, and Deserts Tonight Through Wednesday Afternoon*** SYNOPSIS: A weak low pressure system will develop off the central California coast Tuesday evening then move slowly across the region Tuesday night and Wednesday. The atmosphere will become more unstable as the low approaches but the moisture source will be very limited. This scenario will bring a potential for dry lightning, or thunderstorms that contain little or no rainfall, across much of southwest California from about the San Luis Obispo County Mountains south and east across most of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Fire weather concerns are high given the very dry fuel conditions and recent above normal temperatures. IMPACTS: Dry lightning could result in fire ignitions and gusty outflow winds from collapsing thunderstorms would help spread fire rapidly. The recent heat wave has primed dry vegetation across the entire region with most areas reporting critical fuel moisture levels. Boaters should be aware that thunderstorms could bring dangerous lightning, shifting winds, and choppy seas. TIMING: The main dry lightning threat will develop after midnight with thunderstorms likely to form over the coastal waters then move inland overnight and early Wednesday morning. Storm movement will generally be from southwest to northeast. Thunderstorms will likely shift to the mountains and deserts and away from the coast and valley areas by midday Wednesday, continuing through Wednesday afternoon. All storm activity should wind down by early Wednesday evening. Community: Great time to brush up: Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety Great time to brush up: Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety As most residents of Los Angeles County may already be aware, a Magnitude 4.1 earthquake centered 1 mile North, to North West from the city of Yorba Linda in Orange County was recorded this morning at 9:33AM (USGS http://on.doi.gov/OMbjEv) as well as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake which struck 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, 2 miles north-northeast of Yorba Linda. Although it was felt in through various parts of Los Angeles County, currently the LASD reports no significant damage. However, the LASD reminds the citizens of Los Angeles County that with this incident fresh in our memories, this would be a great time to prepare for a major earthquake. The following information has been provided for reference: Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety The information on this page is from materials created by the Emergency Survival Program (ESP) in 2006, and based on "The Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety" in the handbook, Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country. Step 1: Secure it now! Reducing and/or eliminating hazards throughout your home, neighborhood, workplace and school can greatly reduce your risk of injury or death following the next earthquake or other disaster. Conduct a "hazard hunt" to help identify and fix things such as unsecured televisions, computers, bookcases, furniture, unstrapped water heaters, etc. Securing these items now will help to protect you tomorrow. Step 2: Make a plan Planning for an earthquake, terrorist attack, or other emergency is not much different from planning for a party or vacation. Make sure that your emergency plan includes evacuation and reunion plans; your out-of-state contact person's name and number; the location of your emergency supplies and other pertinent information. By planning now, you will be ready for the next emergency. Step 3: Make disaster kits Everyone should have disaster supplies kits stored in accessible locations at home, at work and in your vehicle. Having emergency supplies readily available can reduce the impact of an earthquake, a terrorist incident or other emergency on you and your family. Your disaster supplies kits should include food, water, flashlights, portable radios, batteries, a first aid kit, cash, extra medications, a whistle, fire extinguisher, etc. Step 4: Is your place safe? Most houses are not as safe as they could be. Whether you are a homeowner or a renter, there are things that you can do to improve the structural integrity of your home. Some of the things that you might consider checking include inadequate foundations, un-braced cripple walls, soft first stories, un-reinforced masonry and vulnerable pipes. Consult a contractor or engineer to help you identify your building's weaknesses and begin to fix them now. Step 5: DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON! Learn what to do during an earthquake, whether you're at home, at work, at school or just out and about. Taking the proper actions, such as "Drop, Cover, and Hold On", can save lives and reduce your risk of death or injury. During earthquakes, drop to the floor, take cover under a sturdy desk or table, and hold on to it firmly. Be prepared to move with it until the shaking stops. Step 6: Check it out! One of the first things you should do following a major disaster is to check for injuries and damages that need immediate attention. Make sure you are trained in first aid and in damage assessment techniques. You should be able to administer first aid and to identify hazards such as damaged gas, water, sewage and electrical lines. Be prepared to report damage to city or county government. Step 7: Communicate and recover! Following a major disaster, communication will be an important step in your recovery efforts. Turn on your portable radio for information and safety advisories. If your home is damaged, contact your insurance agent right away to begin your claims process. For most Presidentially declared disasters, resources will also be available from federal, state, and local government agencies. Sgt. Pepper Saturday, August 11th 7:00 PM the Amphitheater at Farnsworth Park

Rocking & captivating ... Sgt. Pepper performs music by the
Beatles and other British Invasion artists at festivals, concerts in the
park, corporate events, private school fundraisers, wedding
receptions, colleges & night clubs. Although Sgt. Pepper focuses on
Beatles and other British rock & roll, it can also perform many other
classic rock, soul & country tunes, as well as standards and bossa
nova music for cocktail hour. As a testament to the band's versatility,
it can perform songs by the Allman Brothers to ZZ Top & everything
in between! Sgt. Pepper's members are well-known L.A. based
musicians and singers who have performed with major recording
artists, leading music agencies and/or other bands. They came
together to form Sgt. Pepper out of a mutual love of Beatles' music.
Their timing couldn't have been better. Due to the release of Beatles
Rock Band and the re-mastered Beatles catalogue, national interest
in Beatles music has surged, proving once again that the Beatles are
the most popular recording artists of all time, with fans ranging from
teenagers to septuagenarians.
