Advisory: Altadena Sheriff's Advise
that Fireworks are illegal in Altadena.

Altadena Sheriff's Advise that Fireworks are illegal in
Altadena

The Altadena Sheriff's Station reminds all residents and visitors that
the best way to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with family and
friends is by attending professional fireworks shows such as Americafest
at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Stadium.  Fireworks Celebration at
Altadena Town & Country Club on Wednesday, July 1st. Party begins at
6:00 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. Please RSVP with the
Front Desk, 2290 Country Club Dr. Altadena, CA 91001, (626) 794-7163.

The sale or possession of all fireworks is illegal in Altadena. Violators
are subject to confiscation and impound of vehicles; up to one year in
jail and fines up to $50,000. Call Altadena Sheriff's at (626) 798-1131
to report illegal fireworks.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department wants to remind everyone that the
use of fireworks not only causes fires, but results in severe injuries
and burns.

Altadena Sheriff's Captain Christopher Reed urges everyone to make safety
a priority on July 4th.

Even sparklers, which many people consider safe, can reach 1,200 degrees
Fahrenheit, causing serious burns and starting fires. Adults normally
don’t allow their children to get near anything that hot, but for some
reason they think it’s acceptable to put sparklers in the hands of little
ones on the Fourth of July.

Statistics show fireworks are among the most risky of consumer products.
In 2012, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 8,700
people for fireworks related injuries; 55% of 2012 emergency room
fireworks-related injuries were to the extremities and 31% were to the
head. The most current statistics from the National Fire Protection Association
show that in 2009 more than nine out of 10, or 92 percent, of all
fireworks-related injuries treated in hospitals were caused by fireworks
that are allowed for consumer use by federal or state regulations.

NOTE TO PARENTS: If your child has any fireworks prior to June 28th, the
items are probably illegal and dangerous and should be

turned over to your fire department or local police agency!

Parents are liable for any damage or injuries caused by their children
using fireworks.

Department at http://www.fire.lacounty.gov

UNIT:   LASD Major Crimes Bureau, Metro Detail, Burglary-Robbery Task Force
CONTACT:  Sergeant Michael Maher, Major Crimes Bureau  (562) 946-7038

NARRATIVE:
On Monday, June 8, 2015, investigators from the Los Angeles County Major Crimes Bureau, Metro Detail, Burglary-Robbery Task Force, were conducting an ongoing investigation into a suspected residential burglary “crew”.  Detectives believed multiple male and female members of a Los Angeles area criminal street gang were using rental vehicles while committing “knock-knock” style residential burglaries throughout Los Angeles County.  At around noon, Major Crimes Bureau investigators saw two men and two women driving a rental car slowly through an upscale residential neighborhood in the Pacific Palisades area.

At approximately 12:45 PM, investigators observed Suspect Jarrett knock on the front door of a residence and peer into the front windows.  Shortly thereafter, Suspect Jarrett and Suspect Fisher jumped over a side gate into the backyard of the residence.  At around 1 PM, both suspects were observed jumping back out over the same side gate carrying a bag and items they had not previously had.  The rental vehicle quickly re-appeared in front of the house being driven by Suspect Caldwell and picked up both Suspect Jarrett and Suspect Fisher.  Investigators also observed Suspect Overstreet, who had rented the vehicle, seated in the car.

Detectives quickly confirmed that the residence had been ransacked and burglarized.  A short distance away, near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Paseo Miramar, Task Force tactical deputies conducted a traffic stop where all four suspects were detained without incident.  Stolen property (jewelry, watches, and sentimental heirlooms) from the burglarized home were recovered from inside the car as well as on the person of Suspect Overstreet.  The property recovered was valued at over $10,000.

All four suspects were arrested and booked at South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station for residential burglary and are being held on $50,000 bail each.  Bail is expected to be increased based on each suspect’s criminal street gang affiliations.

Suspect Overstreet was out of custody, on bond, for a recent felony evasion/vehicle pursuit arrest and has previously been arrested fifteen times for felony violations including: illegal possession of a firearm, burglary, and possession of stolen property.

Suspect Jarrett was out of custody on parole for a residential burglary conviction and has multiple previous felony arrests.

Suspect Caldwell was also out of custody on parole for a residential burglary conviction and is a three strike candidate.  He has been arrested for over a dozen felony violations including: illegal firearm possession, burglary, and theft.

Suspect Fisher has numerous previous felony arrests including: murder, attempted murder, robbery, and burglary.

Citizens are reminded to lock and secure their homes while away, and quickly report suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighborhood to local law enforcement.

Advisory: Altadena Mountain Rescue Team helps overheated dog in Eaton Canyon.

Today at 1:00pm, a call came into the Altadena Sheriff’s Station for a dog that had collapsed from possible heat stroke.  The hiker, a 20 year old female from Downey, CA was hiking in the Eaton Canyon Nature Center with her dog, when the dog appeared lethargic and stopped walking.  The hiker called for help along with Pasadena Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Altadena Search and Rescue Team responded to Eaton Canyon.   Fire Captain Joe Grayston of L.A. County Fire Engine 66 was able to telephone the hiker and direct rescue crews into the location of the injured dog.
The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team was able to drive up the dirt hiking trail and reach the hiker and her dog.  The first arriving rescue crew saw “Tyson”, a 4 year old Boxer dog unable to sit up and quickly panting.  An attempt was made to give the overheated dog water, but sadly Tyson threw up every time water was given.  Tyson was loaded into the air conditioned cab of a waiting Altadena Rescue Team truck, and both Tyson and owner were driven off the hot trail to the parking lot at Eaton Canyon Nature Center.  The Pasadena Humane Society was waiting at the nature center parking lot, and they accessed the dog After 30 minutes of cooling off, Tyson was given water, and did not throw up.  It was believed Tyson was now well enough to travel home with his owner, who was very concerned for her dog.
Please remember to bring enough water for our 4 legged friends.  Pictured are Tyson the dog, Altadena Mountain Search and Rescue Team volunteer Fred Pearce, and the dog’s owner.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team is made up of all volunteer reserve deputies and civilian volunteers, for more information visit. http://www.AMRT.org
